Fort Worth Stockyards

Saturday the Beck family took me to the Fort Worth Stockyards. The Stockyards are so much fun and a big part of Texas history. Back in the old days people all over texas would bring their cattle to the Fort Worth Stockyards and they would sell and trade them. Then they would put them on the train that runs right through the stockyards and ship them out to all over the United States.

There is bull riding, horse back rides, petting zoo, rodeo, big longhorn cattle then cowboys corral and walk them down the road. Thats called a cattle drive.

There are lots of shops and restaurants. Texans love fried pickles so they offer them at all the restaurants. People walk around in cowboy boots and cowboy hats. Thats common all over Texas not just the Stockyards but I saw a lot of it there. They even had a sheriff and old cowboys that had a gun fight in the street! It was so loud and fun. It wasn't real guns so we were all safe.

After the stockyards we went on a picnic at Trinity Park. There is a river here called Trinity River and there is a park named after it. Mr Paul went to subway to get subs and Miss Ashlee stopped by the grocery store to get fruit and veggies. Then we threw out a huge blanket and sat and ate and talked and had a great time. There were some people that were broke down and Mr Paul went over to see if he could help while Sarie took the kids in that car drinks. They only spoke Spanish. Mr Paul speaks a little Spanish and Miss Ashlee and the kids are learning Spanish. They say it is very important to learn Spanish if you live in Texas. I learned that Texas is really close to Mexico and so a lot of Mexicans and Latinos come to the United States and settle in Texas.

Since it was such a nice day after lunch we went to another park. There I got to go down the slide and swing and run around and play. It was 75 degrees. Everyone was outside playing. We spent the rest of the afternoon playing and by evening headed back home.

It was a really great day! Here are the pictures from the day.
